Bg Free is a background-removal tool that runs entirely in your browser. This page explains exactly what that means for your data.

Your photos never leave your device

Bg Free does not have a server that receives your images. When you upload a photo, it is processed on-device using a machine learning model that runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly. At no point is the image you're editing transmitted to us, stored by us, or seen by us.

What is downloaded to your browser

The first time you use Bg Free, your browser downloads the background-removal model (roughly 45–90 MB) from a third-party content delivery network so it can run locally. This is a one-time download of our model files — it does not involve sending any of your photos anywhere. Standard web request metadata (such as your IP address) is visible to that CDN in the same way it would be for any file downloaded from any website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymized usage of this site — for example, how many people visit, which pages are viewed, and general device/browser information. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to do this. It does not have access to the photos you process, since those never leave your device. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using browser extensions such as the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Local storage

Bg Free uses your browser's local storage to remember small preferences on your own device — such as your light/dark theme choice and whether you've dismissed the announcement banner. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.

No accounts, no signup

Bg Free does not have user accounts, logins, or a database of users. We don't collect names, emails, or passwords, because there's nowhere for you to enter them.

Children's privacy

Bg Free does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the tool doesn't collect personal information from anyone in the first place, this applies equally to all users.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change accordingly.
