About Bg Free

Bg Free is a free background-removal tool built on a simple idea: removing the background from a photo shouldn't require an account, a subscription, or uploading your image to someone else's server.

Everything runs locally in your browser using an on-device machine learning model. There's no backend processing your photos — which also means there's no server cost to pass on to you, so the tool stays free with no usage limits.

What it does

Upload a photo and Bg Free isolates the subject from its background in a few seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on your device. From there you can download a transparent PNG, drop in a solid color or your own background photo, blur the backdrop for a portrait-mode look, and clean up any rough edges by hand with the Magic Brush.

Who built it

Bg Free is an independent project by R2Designs. It's built and maintained as a side project, iterated on based on what's actually useful for real editing work rather than what fits a pricing tier.
